After the mixed success of EGL 5 Blackpool, on Thursday night the European Gaming League announced live on stream that the next EGL event will take place on June 30th - July 1st in Stockholm Sweden, a surprise to many members of the European community.

This marks the first time that EGL has ventured outside of the UK, and the event will be organized in partnership with Swedish event organizers EEE ("European Esports Event"). The team limit has been capped at 32, a questionable decision considering the multitude of teams that attended EGL 5 in April. A smaller event however should guarantee an "exclusive" event for the very top teams, and will hopefully mean an improvement in production value, where EGL 5 slipped due to a number of unpredictable circumstances.

This is also the first EGL event to feature just one tournament, 4v4 Modern Warfare 3 on Xbox 360.  All of the previous events have hosted a selection of Halo, Gears and FIFA tournaments.

In addition to the EGL 6 announcement, the dates for EGL 7 were released. EGL 7 is to be held on August 4th-5th, and will be held in the UK with unlimited numbers on all games including Halo, Gears of War and MW3 on PS3.

apeX NA dealt a hammering blow to the European scene when they stormed to victory at EGL 5. This will hopefully encourage some more American teams to cross the pond. The pressure is now on the European teams to step up their game.
