Icons Showcase LAN June 1-3

Paul Megna of 360icons discusses his upcoming showcase LAN in Virginia Beach.

With the close of the UMG Classic, it is clear what the community wants to see. The numbers on the stream don't lie, as thousands tuned in to watch the game's top teams battle it out for cash in a LAN environment. There is no greater joy for a spectator or stream viewer, than to watch their favorite pros battle it out in the same room, and on an even connection.

While the Icons Showcase will not provide as big of a bracket as we saw in Chicago, it will provide viewers with the top teams they know and love. Bringing familiar faces to a great location like Virginia Beach not only ensures a fantastic tournament, but a great time outside of the game as well.

Earlier this week, we talked with Paul 'Ego' Megna, and he discussed his plans for the event. He discussed the importance of fan favorite teams that the viewers can root for and how our community can survive outside of MLG.

How do you think this LAN showcases some of the best competitive teams in the world?

I think one of the voids in our community of competitive Call of Duty is the exposure of the top tier players and teams. If we want to be at the highest level of competition there has to be teams to beat and "fan favorites," before there can be any amateur upsets.

What types of tournaments or gameplay do you have planned for this event?

We dont have any specific tournament style set in stone. But most likely just a small four team double elimination bracket with as much interacting on the stream as we can. Ideally, I would like to focus on what different teams and invidiuals bring to the table, wether its showing a team's scrims for some time or what happens if a team went into a pub together. Perhaps show their sniping talent, as well as any other challenges we can throw at them.

Since MW3 isn't on the circuit, what do you feel like your LANs/tournaments essentially do for the competitive community?

Absolutely, I think that as a community we need to be able to survive on our own, we don't NEED MLG. It's just an awesome bonus to add onto what we do on our own. I expect to see a lot more LAN events coming up with an overwhelming amount of online events on top of them.

Needless to say, the event will be covered all weekend right here on 360icons with photos, livestream, chat and news content. Be sure to view the calendar here at 360icons to stay up to date with this event and all others in the near future.
