UGC Niagara: Day One
UGC Niagara: Day One
apeX storms through the top half of the bracket, while some emerging amateurs battle through the loser's bracket.
Saturday’s play opened bright and early at UGC Niagara, where matches started at 10 AM ET. The day featured some dominating play by one top team, as well as some impressive matches between emerging amateur teams. After nearly sixty matches throughout the day, only four teams survived from the original field of thirty two.
The day’s stream featured numerous amateur teams, who were trying to make a name for themselves at the UGC event. Numerous teams held their own, and displayed the wealth of undiscovered talent within the competitive scene. However, some couldn’t manage against the few top teams at the event, and displayed just how wide the skill gap can be between top pros and novice players.
The winner’s bracket was dominated throughout the day by apeX.NA, who have been impressive all event. They took their early matches with ease, and have yet to see much of a challenge. The team has been led by strong slaying power, from their pickup player, Proof. The team’s other pickup, Revan, has done a sufficient job as a fill-in and is making his voice heard as the lead shout caster for the event.
On the other side of the bracket, some lesser known teams proved their value. Segma ran through the bottom half of the winner’s bracket, and reached the winner’s finals, where they were sent down by apeX. However, they have secured a spot in the loser’s finals, and are one win away from reaching the finals for a rematch with apeX.
In the loser’s bracket finals, Snow Unicorn and Donut Shop will square off for their tournament lives. That match will be the first on Sunday’s schedule. Snow was sent down to the LB by Segma earlier in the tournament, and a potential rematch may be in order there as well.
